I think that most people think that poaching should be punished. Rammell seems to think that most people feel just the opposite and that they might side with him. I doubt he’s right and I think that this will make thing much worse for him. He doesn’t seem to be getting much sympathy either.

You may all be correct; but, don’t forget that the evidence against Warren Jeffs was just as strong and his conviction in Utah was overturned on what everyone agreed was a ridiculous technicality. Yes, Jeffs was extradited to Texas, but still hasn’t been tried for anything there and is still running his empire from jail. Rex Rammell has very publicly claimed that everything he has done, is doing, and will continue to do is a fulfillment of Mormon prophecy and the church has made no disclaimer. Don’t underestimate the under-the-counter power of the cult. Rammell may get convicted; but, don’t count on him actually serving much of a sentence.
Those self-fulfilling-prophesies require manipulation of the non-believers since they won’t voluntarily comply. RR probably won’t see the inside of a jail cell since he’s promoting the “the doctrine” …
All he has to succeed in doing is creating doubt in the mind of one seated juror. Oh, that and avoid prosecution on tampering/influence charges.
One of the rules in election law prohibits campaign materials in polling places… in Idaho not only do they allow campaign stickers, buttons and posters in some polling places, they also allow husbands in the booth with their subservient wives so they can tell them who to vote for and make sure that they do vote for the husband’s choice. I have witnessed this first hand while living and voting in Idaho. What a state… of insanity. Idaho has some of the most awesome real estate but one of the scariest social climates… Most of the first amendment rights don’t apply directly to the citizens in that state ~ most notably and especially for women, at least that’s what I surmised after living there for over a decade.
That’s amazing. If I even hinted at helping my wife decide, I’d be looking for a new place to inhabit, despite her telling me where I needed to go….. :^))
I really hope Rex does not get off on some mistake the other side makes. I really think they should make all poaching crimes a felony and that the guns, boats, trucks, atv’s, everything used in conjunction with the crime should be confiscated. Hunting & fishing privleges taken away for life.
That’s what happens to drug dealers in many states, they take every asset. That’s what should happen, especially to repeat offenders like mr rex.- does the name rex infer that he is some kind of dinosaur, at least psychologically maybe?
You said it yourself. Is a state that allows husbands in the voting booth “with their subservient wives so they can tell them who to vote for and make sure that they do” going to stick it to Rammell in any dramatic way? For the cult, the issue isn’t about poaching or jury tampering or anything else; it’s about their own sick version of “states’ rights” and making sure that nobody outside the cult is going to tell anybody inside the cult anything, even about the perversion of the rape/marriage of 12-year-old wives. The situation speaks volumes and I predict will continue to speak volumes about both the states and the cult. Just keep watching and mark my words. I hope I’ll be surprised, but don’t count on it.

Idaho has some polygamy, and with it no doubt some abuses. That is hardly a typical Idaho marriage though.
I’m not saying Idaho is a wonderful place for gender equality, but what you write goes too far.

I have not witnessed such marriages in the state, however, I was at a state-wide justice dept. (of ID) meeting, held over a secured distance media venue and read the handouts that showed how ID, at the time, was one of the states with the highest incidence rate of child sex abuse in the country. I wasn’t surprised since I knew what the prevailing organization was in control at the time. I don’t imagine that anything much has changed since.
I wonder how things are working out for him in Idaho County.
I suspect that he has a small circle of friends, kind of like Ron Gillette’s following, and they will soon tire of his antics.
I do believe that this is a case of jury tampering but, depending on his “connections” in the state house, he may well be absolved of wrong-doing no matter how stupidly illegal his actions are. And of course, there’s that “ignorance-by-choice” crowd who will always be stupid enough to fall for his stories regardless of whether they make sense to any sane person because he “stands for” some sense of inalienable rights of which they have little to no understanding, some might be members of the legislature. Makes you wonder why he’s not already behind bars… maybe.
